Ben Verlinde

About

Hello,

I'm Ben Verlinde, a designer in New York City with 10 years of experience in web, print and branding design for top US and international brands.

I grew up a military brat, moving all over the United States and Europe for most of the 1980s. Two things I always had on me were my skateboard and a sketchbook filled with drawings of skateboard graphics or album covers. This type of art inspired my love of design and still informs my work today.

This passion for art lead me to Virginia Commonwealth University where I earned a BFA in Graphic Design. VCU is a great school which afforded me the opportunity to study under design legends such as Phillip  Meggs and explore many avenues of design from digital publication (anyone remember Quark?) to traditional letterpress techniques. The guiding design philosophy of the school was to foster creativity and teach students that strong concepts are the key to good design. This philosophy has always served as the backbone of my design process. After college I spent 5 years in Washington DC at a small firm doing print design for local and national clients.

In 2008 I relocated to New York and after a small stint of freelancing for clients such as VICE, Scholastic and the restauranteur Keith McNally, I took a full-time position in the Consumer Marketing department at HBO. I've been fortunate to be able to work with a highly talented team of individuals on a large variety of digital web and mobile projects. I have experience setting up new tablet and mobile publishing platforms, leveraging social media to market programming and designing content-driven websites such asEmmy nominated Game of Thrones Viewer's Guide.

With the advent of the mobile web and the multitude of online video platforms, I believe it's an exciting time to work on digital products for the entertainment industry. I'm very excited to work on projects that leverage multiplatform storytelling to draw in consumers and evolve traditional television into a more dynamic experience.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my lovely wife, skateboarding and playing music.

Please have a look at my work and get in touch if you would like more information.

Thanks for looking,
Ben
